About Me

              Eileen Meindl O’Hagan

              Artist Statement

My paintings are largely autobiographical and depict my search for balance in art and in life. Whether the pictures are realistic paintings of birds’eggs or fruit, or abstract contemplations of the world around me as well as the world within, it is finding the balance in them that propels me, inspires me  and fascinates me. I often rotate my pictures while I paint them, and discovering which end is up is an ongoing process. Discovering which end is up these days of COVID 19, Systemic Racism, and Climate Change with accompanying fires and floods add an element of sorrow and panic to this endeavor. New paintings called It Used To Be Ice reflect this.

I have been educated all over the place, including at Kent State University with “Papa”Dan Rohn, at Portland State University with Margaret Shirley, at San Diego City College with Deborah Babylon, and at Northwestern University with Judy Legerwood and Bill Cass. I graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in art and philosophy.

Solo shows include several in Chicago at Bell Studio, as featured guest artist at the Smith Nature Symposium, and in San Diego at North Park Studio. I have been in group shows at Gallery Studio Oh, Bell Studio, Art Chicago and the WomanMade Gallery in Chicago, at the Mirror Pond Gallery and Avenida Gallery in Bend, Oregon, at the Kenton Family Gallery in Portland, Oregon, and

at the Del Mar Art Fair in Del Mar, California.
